About Krishna Mehta

Krishna Mehta
Crafted in Continuity

For over four decades, Krishna Mehta has shaped a design language rooted not in trend, but in continuity — a practice built on the enduring intelligence of Indian textiles.

Raised in Mumbai amidst her father’s textile stores, Krishna’s earliest education was tactile — in drape, colour, and the quiet discipline of fabric.

She studied apparel design, weaving, and applied arts at Sophia Polytechnic, trained at the Weavers Service Centre, and later pursued Fashion and Apparel Design in Paris.

“I have always been drawn to fabrics that feel lived in — easy, tactile, and quietly expressive.”

Every Krishna Mehta garment is a collaboration — between the designer and the artisan, between memory and the present.

Her practice brings together weavers, dyers, block printers, embroiderers, and painters, working across techniques refined over generations.

The result is clothing that does not announce itself, but reveals itself over time.

In 2008, Krishna established *Palak* in Gujarat — a block-printing initiative that trains and employs differently abled artisans within their own communities.
Her work extends beyond design into mentorship, education, and advocacy — contributing to institutions and initiatives that shape the future of Indian textiles.

TODAY Krishna Mehta’s work is worn across India and internationally — by individuals who value craft, restraint, and quiet individuality.
Her practice continues to evolve, guided not by change for its own sake, but by a deeper refinement of what already exists.

For her, craft is not a reference. It is a way of thinking.
